Lady Alberta Dorothy Silverton Idlebrick, better know as Birdie, is admiring her recently completed guesthouse, when friend Kate bursts through the bushes in a panic. She has just walked in on her husband of 6-months and found him with another woman! Birdie graciously offers to let Kate stay in the guesthouse while they try and work things out. But before they have a chance, he’s discovered dead and Kate begs Birdie to find out who murdered him. It’s fun watching rather proper English Birdie as she deals with the older, handsome Detective Whitlock, upsetting her long-time friend Chaplain Collin in the process. There are a few off-beat characters along with way, not to mention Birdies Aunties Coffey and Deirdre! I received an ARC of this book and write this review voluntarily. When her best friend's little sister asks for help proving that her husband is a cheater. She agrees. Not a wise choice. She discovers Soren's body and gets dropped on her head by her friend Colin. Her life is amazing. It's filled with mystery and romance. There are plenty of suspects who had issues with the victim. Can Birdie help find the killer? Inspector Whitlock is a distraction. Add in family drama, a talking kitty and two men with romantic feelings. The action is nonstop. I liked Birdie. She's a winning combination of romance, humor and kindness. I'm looking forward to seeing what trouble Birdie can get into next. This is a great start to this new series. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021 )

Birdie is finally feeling like she has established herself in the town where she grew up with her eccentric aunts. The murder of the cheating husband of one of her friends sends Birdie off on a quest to find the killer. With the help of her cat who seems to be offering snippet of advice among his “talking” and one of the local ministers, who is also a friend since Birdie moved to the States the discover a web of money and drugs. The plot keeps you guessing until the end of who committed the murder and who might be in trouble next to keep the secrets hidden. This dangerous investigation may be Birdie’s last foray into a murder investigation. I enjoy, sweet, naïve yet headstrong Birdie as she searches for a murderer.
